This is good.
Since moving to Southampton I’ve really missed Southsea’s Kokopelli, a small coffee shop on Elm Grove offering free wifi, nice coffee and pretty good porridge in a nice and friendly atmosphere. Working from home can be a grind sometime so I used Kokopelli in the morning to plan my day and do a few emails. Just a little context shift to start the day and the chance to be among other people.
Unfortunately I’ve not been able to find anywhere similar in Soton. Well until yesterday. I’m now sat in a very nice antiquarian bookshop on Portswood road that also offers coffee, free wifi and has a bunch of people chatting away
No porridge unfortunately but a blueberry muffin managed the satiate the need porridge use to. And I’ve got a lot done already (writing some sales copy which I always find a bit embarrassing, it always seems to sound a bit boasty). I’ll take a picture tomorrow and slap it up.
A week since we’ve been back and I can happily declare the honeymoon to be a success
A great holiday full of excitement and drama of the most excellent kind which the Lovely Suzey (now her official nickname) has more than adequately covered in her own blog.
Since getting back we’re getting close to closing the house deal, fingers crossed the final paperwork should be in the proper hands by the end of today which in turn means we should be able to get into our new abode prior to Christmas, something we both dearly want. Getting all of Suze’s stuff out of the flat and fitting the huge amount of my crap into the new place is going to be a challenge but we’re both good at Tetris (I’m leading 3 to 2 in the Liddon’s first-to-ten ongoing married life Tetris-a-thon) so I’m sure it’s a challenge we’ll rise to.
Some interesting work stuff going on right now which, unfortunately, the openness of this blog precludes me from talking about. A shame but things are looking good for Xen in 07. More details when the dust has settled.
Not a lot more to add really. Was surpised to see Pacman in our local Pizza Express last Saturday:
Also bought the excellent Guitar Hero 2 and Singstar Rock for PS2 just recently and have been caning GH2 though have left Singstar until the next time we have friends round who’ve been filled with beer. It’s a five pinter game really. Maybe this weekend
PS
Very Happy Birthday to Shelley Supernova today, currently “on the lam” after trying to stab her intended THROUGH THE BRAIN.
I’m all for some saucy role play to spice up your life but this seems to have gone a tad too far
And we’ll be all gone back to Southampton this time tomorrow. Had, having and will have an excellent time until out return flight. You can see pics from Day 6 and Day 7 right here.
The Lovely Suzey will no doubt blog it up some more later tonight and tell the tale of the 4×4 getting stuck in the snow in the middle of nowhere to our slight consternation. Out into RVK tonight to see the night life, the hotel shuttle will be whisking The Liddons away to copious amounts of jaw droppingly expensive beer. More news soon.
My wife is taking on duties as official chronicler for our journey on the edge of the earth as you can see here. I’m taking pictures.
You can find more here.
Though a tad bracing. We’re having a lovely time as you can see from Suze’s blog updates
Some more to look at here and here and here
What a fantastic and marvelous day
Far too fragile right now to blog everything about the wonderful time we had but thank you so much to everyone who helped make this a superlative day.
Right, I’ve got to take the suits back to the hire shop and then chill out before me and my wife
travel to Iceland tomorrow.
You can see some pretty terrible photos from me right here and some much better ones from Jon here and Rik here.
If you’ve any piccies online then please post links in the comments
Proper update soon. In the meantime there’s also some pictures of the big night out the day before the wedding here
Sitting here waiting for the imminent arrival of a pizza and contemplating the day to come.
From an organisational point of view everything is pretty much sorted, all I have left on my plate is a quick liaise with the excellent Tim who’ll be photographing the wedding and a visit to the barbers. The Back To The Future Doc Brown do I’m currently sporting won’t go down well so a quick shearing at Garbo’s this afternoon is in order.
I have some massive shoes, the local High And Mighty managed to sell some size 13 buckle over square topped black ones that just about manage to not look like they were once the property of a clown..
And despite a barrage of “are you nervous”’s from everyone I’ve talked to today I’m feeling pretty sanguine and very much looking forward to tomorrow. We’re such an excellent match me and Suze, a really wonderful intersection of companionship, passion and friendship, that not doing this would seem unnatural and odd. And best of all we get to go through this experience together with best of friends and family by our side. And with a lot of nice champagne inside us as well
Nowt super special happening today but there’s a biggish list still to get through. Picking up suit, getting some shoes and having a hair cut top of that list. Suze has done an excellent job of the table decorations and also got a nice pack together for each of the young ‘uns attending which they’ll love and should take a little pressure of the parents attending.
There’s a bit of last minute fiddling to get the mortgage in place for the the new house. This flat has been good to us but its smallness hasn’t allowed for the clear distinction between work and leisure I usually need. My office is also the font room and I think both fun and business have suffered a little as a result.
The new place allows a biggish room for an office. It’ll also mean the return of a few toys including the Robotron cabinet which will be warmly welcomed back into the fold
And we’re also to get a couple of cats, something we’ve both hugely missed since Casper’s disappearance at the old house.
It’s been a glorious site seeing GWB get a bloody nose in the US mid terms and seeing Rumsfeld get the heave-ho as a result. The spectacle of the leader of the free world indignantly and ineptly back tracking over the praise he gave Rumsfeld just last week was a delight to see.
And it’s been a bit of an eye-opener seeing the press go over some of the horrendous decisions he’s taken over the Iraq campaign. I’m fully aware that last man out is going to get the majority of any blame that’s flying around but even taking that into account it’s impossible to view the appointment of a new secretary of defense as anything but positive, whoever it may be.
After the last remaining nick nacks for the wedding are out the way we’re to treat ourselves with a visit to the pictures to see The Prestige. Another Christopher Nolan pic and having hugely enjoyed Insomnia and Batman Begins I’ve high hopes for this.
On a separate note It has been nice to see comments fall onto these posts from some names I’ve not seen from people for a long while thanks to the automagic cross-posting onto my old Livejournal blog of any entry made here at Block Copy Coders. So hello new readers
I find myself in the strange position of at the age of 39 using spot cream for the first time. It’s Oxy10 and has now been used to treat two thirds of the little red sods that have suddenly appeared in the last couple of weeks. The potent and horribly smelly active ingredient precludes applying it to the blemish closest to my mouth but the one on the cheek and the other on the chin are now er… oxicuted.
Lets hope they disappear by Sunday as right now I look like a cheap bit of Amstrad hi-fi festooned with cheap LEDs and the smeared with vaseline.
